High achievers think about quitting all the time.
Anytime you’re doing something great, challenging and complex you operate in a pressure packed environment. When you’re trying to do it big, when you’re trying to do it fast, when you’re trying to hit a deadline, the stress can be overwhelming. I’ve heard many say they think about quitting 2-3 times every day. In fact many believe that if you don’t feel the same way you are probably not involved in anything very special or exciting.
Of course, they don’t quit—the thought just pops into their head from time to time…you know, like when you’re daydreaming, driving along the highway and the though jumps into your mind about how much fun it might be to accelerate and drive off the cliff just to see how it would feel.
They don’t do it, but the thought jumps into their heads from time to time.
They have too much invested. They are too close to their goals. They’re excited about realizing their dreams. The work gets crazy from time to time and they may sometimes feel like quitting, but that doesn’t mean there’s ever any real chance they would actually back off.
Low achievers think about quitting all the time too.
They think about it because they don’t want to work. They don’t want to be bothered. They’re not excited about what they’re doing. They don’t see the purpose in what they’re doing. They don’t feel like it’s worth it. So they want to quit. To these people, I suggest a reality check.
It’s in relationship to money—the only reason they’re working in the first place is because they have to. So…
Reality check! You don’t have enough money to quit.
That’s not one of your options. Get back to work and keep at it for now because you have a money problem. Stop tormenting yourself by wasting time thinking about quitting. Unless you win the lottery the only way you’re going to “get enough money to quit,” is to find another way to make it.
